I am very happy to live in a country where the possession of firearms by private persons is much more strictly controlled and where deaths by guns, both in individual and mass killings, are also much lower per capita. (Although they still happen). Even if I lived in the USA, I wouldn't subscribe to Peacedog's viewpoint. Nonetheless, I find the arguments put forward in the linked article - about the difficulty of making a sound estimate of the numbers of 'legitimate' cases of self-defence using guns in the USA - to be fairly persuasive. This issue, statistically speaking, would still seem to be an unknown.
Do not make the mistake of giving up the near in order to seek the far.
