Yes, I know Döpfner. Not quite a Trumpist, he's more intelligent and responsible than that, but pretty much to the right. Certainly someone who will put money-making (for big business, that is) ahead of international community. It's one political opinion.

So back on topic - the impeachment verdict has been delayed, witnesses being called after all...

If the jurors and judges are going to confer with the defense, might as well have some witnesses. Anyway, it'd be great to see the QAnon shaman testify, dude. Gotta watch SNL tonight, too.

Where does most people's 'gut' come from? The messages they are slowly drip fed every day by the media, which in the UK has been demonising immigrants, europe and foreigners for decades as the source of all the problems for the working man of England.

(Despite studies showing that immigrants make a large net positive contribution to the public finances in the UK https://www.oxfordeconomics.com/recent- ... 250df6dbba )

Already many smaller industries have gone to the wall in Britain because of the problems exporting to Europe. They're all profitable because of 30 years of being able to trade directly with Europe with no barries, now the barriers we asked for make it impossible/not profitable - they're all small industries, but when you add them all up together it forms a massive impact that bleeds out of the economy - fishing, (shell fish in particular is banned for export now, not just impractical), the equestrian industry, musicians, cheese exports, etc... MIchael Gove may have said 'we've had enough of experts', but what he really meant was 'we've had enough of exports'.

But the big one is financial services (which made up 11% of our GDP last year), which the government somehow sacrificed to save fishing (less than 2% GDP) while simultaneous destroying fishing. Amsterdam just took over from London as the largest share trading centre in Europe. That is a massive change that was unthinkable a few years ago. https://www.ft.com/content/3dad4ef3-59e ... 29a5b7d0aa

Who is the force pushing for this all along, funding it, infultrating Facebook and Twitter with targeted messaging? Putin. This is how The Kremlin operates. They weaken countries from within. They're bold enough to carry out murders on UK soil - they aren't going to stop.

The much-delayed Russia report shows UK gov failed to investigate Kremlin interference with Brexit:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... dum-brexit

Why was that? Who was funding the Conservative Party?

The person who got what he wants out of this is Putin. He got a weakened Europe and a weakened UK. His next step will be to weaken the UK further by pushing for Scottish Independence. And you can look forward to Trump 2024 thanks to Vladimir.

People say the best trick the devil ever pulled is convincing people he doesn't exist, but the best trick he ever pulled was making people destroy themselves while thinking it's their own idea.

Most people know "little of the subject except of what my gut feeling tell".

That's the problem with gut feeling. If you don't educate your gut feeling then somebody else will.

Impeachment win? Mitch McConnell's comments summed it up why he was acquitted.

Everybody knows he was guilty for stirring up the mob. His defense attorneys said that the case should be in criminal court. But, please, the Senators said they were going to acquit a week ago, and some met with the defense the day before closing arguments and the vote. Cmon. How do you win a fixed trial?

Besides, the Republican party is losing members faster than the virus is spreading. They're not stupid. Trump 2024? Well, many of his supporters may not have completed their sentences. Heck, he might be wearing orange.

It's good to hear you weren't swept up in the Capitol riots Roger. Unless of course you're posting this from prison?

Yep, feelings require confirmation or they're just products of the imagination. It's like feeling a beautiful woman loves you.

This will be an interedting development if it happens

(Reuters) - Dozens of former Republican officials, who view the party as unwilling to stand up to former President Donald Trump and his attempts to undermine U.S. democracy, are in talks to form a center-right breakaway party, four people involved in the discussions told Reuters.

Well, the "Center-right" in the US are called Democrats anywhere else ;). From a political perspective, what's clear is that there are only more Republicans who would not vote for Trump than there were in November. So, imo, all another party (whether center-right, libertarian, or Trump-led "patriot" party) will do is reduce or disperse the Republican votes --even if not a single one votes for a Democrat.

Nice that you've got something to cheer you up. :D

- Are you using the term "intellegentsia" as a term of abuse? If so, this might clear up a misapprehension: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligentsia

- The outcome of the impeachment process has been a foregone conclusion for some time, for reasons already mentioned in this thread, so no surprise in that respect. Any other result would have been astounding. But who is 'wrong' here? -->

Mitch McConnell gave a speech excoriating the former president for a "disgraceful dereliction of duty" and said he holds him responsible for "provoking" the Jan. 6 siege of the Capitol.
McConnell was among the 43 Republicans who voted that Trump was "not guilty" on the charge of incitement of insurrection.
"There's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it," the Kentucky Republican said Saturday. "The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president."

Or maybe McConnell isn't a Republican in your view?

Naw. McConnell is a typical Republican.
