What happened to RSF

Hello all
H happened, it looks so quiet in here. Thought the next generation would have picked it up and carried on the sharing?

Cheers

We've taken the precaution of using forum software so old and clunky that it's pretty much impossible for new people to sign up.

Keeps the riff raff out.
One does not simply post on RSF.

What happened to RSF

Competition

Many young Martial Artist these days have their own channels that they have to fill with programming.

And then there’s Facebook, where you can post and say things to a much wider audience.
They gotta get those likes!

Plus, a Facebook audience has softer quality control.
Meaning you can get away with saying the stupidest ish
than you can say here.

Most of the old timers here
have actually put in time with their arts
and have a very very critical eye.

Someone says some Ish here
& Someone is gonna set you straight.

I ain't saying no names:
Wayne Hansen
John Wang
Tom
BHassler
Steve James
Ian C.
Etc.
Oh, and almost forgot Wayne Hansen & John Wang
But, like I said I won't mention names.

Just saying Don't bring that fake Ish here! :)

My bad sir. I am around a lot of teenagers and have picked up some of their slang.

Ish
1. Statements or beliefs that are untrue or make no sense
2. Obscene word for unacceptable behavior

rubbish, nonsense, gibberish,
unsatisfactory, very poor, abysmal, inferior, inadequate, second-rate, third-rate

slang for shit or bullshit

Like Wayne Hansen
But I won't mention names :)

Unlike most of the oldtimers who post on RSF, many posters in Facebook groups and on other social media platforms are oftentimes apparently offering personal opinions based solely on hypothetical, intellectual conjecture, rather than comments based upon experiential learning and understanding. :-\

No ads, no algorithm, searchable archive. = superior social content platform. If it’s not broke, why fix it. Bells and whistles distract. In a few more years, Facebook and Twitter will in the dustbin, nothing more than trolls and billboards. Already, bots are speaking to bots more than people. RSF will still be here.

For me, I just realized I have better things to do with my time and shut down all my social media accounts.

I still respect RSF since it doesn't sell the users data so occasionally pop in to see what's up.

But beyond that I just realized that the less I am on my phone the happier I am.

I fully admit I am easily triggered. So why go online?

Thanks for your thoughts all, especially Tom and Kelley as people who keep this site up and running.
As a maybe 'middle-period' participant in RSF I can say I have valued and enjoyed and learned from, occasionally inspired by, or at least been engaged by, lots of CMA-related and off-topic stuff on this site, whether I actively participated in threads or not. For me, the best approach is not to take it too seriously (or at least to try not to) and at the same time to extract the really good things that keep rising to the surface. (Although a lot of marsh gas bubbles also rise to the surface from time to time ;D )
There are a significant number of people on RSF with both experience and intelligence, plus a more or less congenial personality, which is far from being a given in almost any field of (martial arts) internet exchange.
So thank you.
Do not make the mistake of giving up the near in order to seek the far.

Agreed!

I also owe a lot of this board and the different incarnations of this board.

The training I received In China was a direct result of these communities.

I don't train as much as I used to (in part) due to the high cost of living but I still use my martial arts regularly and the principles since my job is very physical.

I also teach power to younger family members who compete in MT with great success. So all is well.

Happy to see this place still here.

The changes and loss of talent here are just one of a hundred reasons to hate FB.

Lol, life

Thanks for the answers all.. perhaps it’s time to start posting again.. maybe some insights of why actually training rather than talking is good, some videos and perhaps a bit of of the filipino blade work..

Good to see you all
