Knees over toes

A year went by with no results. In fact, I was certain I needed another surgery when a spark of truth finally presented itself…

“The athlete whose knees can go farthest and strongest over his or her toes is the most protected.”

Everything I had been taught up to this point by dozens of trainers and physical therapists was very clear: NO KNEES OVER TOES — but when I read this statement, I immediately knew it was true.

I think that he is right that having more range of motion is better. But I also think that it depends on what activity the athlete is preparing for or doing. Basketballers and runners always have knees well over their toes. Try to jump or sprint without doing so. But, they're also on their toes. Imo, the no knee over toe is related to performance and keeping within a limit - or the expected range in a kinetic chain. When the knee overextends, some energy is wasted because it is not delivered to the next part of the chain. Jmo.

My first thought whenever I see guys like this is: he's not very strong and he's not very old.

He is flexible and Steve has some good points about athletes in other sports.

Flexibility is pretty easy when someone is not very strong or if they are moving through a range of motion in an unloaded manner. Being overly flexible, largely due to damaged joints, is a big problem for a lot of people, especially folks who go too far with yoga and former dancers.

I'd keep an eye on this guy and circle back in ten years.

It's BJJ people with ruined knees who seem to have picked up on this guy.

BJJ basically destroys your body over a lifetime, but heck, that's the price of the ride. ;D Sounds like a lot of people have been able to restore their knees with his ideas.

There's another "rule" that the elbow shouldn't extend further than the knee. It can; but, the further it goes past, the less power is available. That is, if the feet are on the ground. Of course, then what about a superman punch? Different idea about power delivery.

Maybe these rules were based on certain presumptions about the best (or most efficient) way to express energy according to how people fought at the time. Anyway, if someone were to ask me where my knee should be if it had to support a refrigerator, I'd say over the toe and not over or under-extended.

It's good stuff. I signed up a couple of weeks ago based on the success stories of some people on a respectable strength training forum I frequent. People with healthy knees can likely get what they need from the youtube videos, but for people with knee issues I highly recommend actually signing up and doing the program as written.

Post an update in a few weeks regarding your results.

I made the experience that you need to stretch the tissues that go around and through the knee to have an impact on joint health. Knees are associated with fear. I cringe the most on vids of knee injuries. Putting joints through their full range of motion is a common rehabilitation principle. Also working on structures below and above the knee.

I found the idea that it's ok for knees to go over toes very liberating, allowing more feeling in practice rather than forcing a mental structure on the body.

IMO the guy's story speaks for itself. I'd trust him.

That depends on a number of factors. I've been doing it since 2008 and running about 4 miles a day avg (since 2014), and still haven't "destroyed" anything, at 55... (Knocking on wood!)
For a famous (and much more dramatic) reference, Helio Gracie was still training/rolling in his nineties.

Sorry Dmitri, I was forgetting how great you are and how pure your lineage is. Silly me.

It was just a colloquial figure of speach, not meant to be taken literally.

Pshaw. If that was the case, you should have said BJJ borques your hingies, or smashes your bone wigglies. Your colloquilineage is clearly fake...

No need to be so passive-aggressive dude. You were wrong and I simply used a couple of examples to illustrate that factually.

But yes, I am great and all my lineages are perfect, as are my squareages and circlages.

At this point it is inevitable that someone is going to scream "that's raycist".

But on a more serious note, anyone else here have any experience with this system. The reviews are making me curious?

No experience with the system. KOT guy does seem good at repackaging and marketing exercises that just haven't been part of the mainstream in the strength and fitness world for a while, which you can get a sense from in this video:
