So how many of you still train low leg kicks? This is like the third of fourth time I've seen one get checked and end in the hospital.

I think he skipped the act humble for a week part this time.
That low kick wasn’t low enough / he hit the knee and broke his foot

A snap kick to the area right below the knee can cause severe damage and from close range it can be very hard to counter.
... I have never seen it done in an MMA fight though ...

Hard against hard, something is going to give.
Conor should have stuck it out, though, after saying Dustin's wife wanted to see his balls.

Ugh that looks gruesome. When I broke my arm, it looked floppy like that where it broke, but it looks more gruesome on an ankle like that when he had to fall down.
So it was a round kick that landed at the wrong spot, then he rolled it and broke it further?

His opponent says it came from him checking Conor's kicks early in the fight. Like that started the fracture that became a full break on an awkward step.

i've broken a finger, but don't think I fractured a foot bone. but those tiny bones and tissues are remarkably fragile. i don't think "iron foot" training is going to change that fundamental anatomy. I thought the technique/contact point was to use foot or shin against the larger upper leg tissue? What was he trying to do?

ah thanks a lot. .... so his aim was just a little off? or he did hit his desired target, but it just didn't work out?

well who knows...
I mean, if you're aim is to go for the thigh you risk getting the knee by mistake. He's also hitting karate style - which is with the instep of the foot, not Muay Thai style, which is with the shin.So that's higher risk as well.
The "in trend" thing to do is hit low to the calf, because you mess up their leg with minimal risk to your own.

general combat sports rules question.
if you break your limb trying to strike the opponent, so the doctor says you can't go on, you should lose?
I mean I guess it makes sense, but in a way, it doesn't.

If you're physically unable to continue fighting, that's a TKO
