BAF (Bagram) taken over by Taliban!
News reporting that they basically walked in and ANF let them in, more or less. ANF said that they did not know when the US was leaving but interestingly Taliban not only knew but they took precautions to uptick their schedule to overtake 5 major cities "without a fight"

Wait, didn’t Trump set the withdrawal in Motion?

March 4, 2021

The Trump White House agreed to a May 1 troop withdrawal. New Yorker writer Dexter Filkins says Biden must now decide whether to honor a deal that included the Taliban but not the Afghan government.

So, Afghan families all around, then?

-lol-

Mr. Trump said in a statement he believes the U.S. should leave Afghanistan earlier than when Mr. Biden has called for, and took credit for laying the groundwork for American troops to leave the country before September 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that launched the U.S. into its longest war.

Trump would have left even faster and earlier. You can take your foot out of your mouth now...

The withdrawal of U.S. troops and allies from Afghanistan comes as the Taliban take over the Afghan capital, and the New York Times recently noted that the fall of Afghanistan has sparked international complaints about U.S. credibility, reinforcing the view that the U.S. will not support its allies indefinitely, and experts say the U.S. cannot be expected to feel more strongly, especially in Taiwan, Ukraine, the Philippines and Indonesia.

Guo Zhengliang stressed that President Biden, who has been chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee in the United States for 20 years, has always boasted that his diplomatic skills are better than that of former President Trump, and that the result is worse than Trump's in dealing with foreign affairs, from America's credibility to Biden's ability to handle diplomacy, all of which have had spillover effects.

Guo Zhengliang further explained that in fact, when the Vietnam War fell in South Vietnam, the first reaction was Thailand, Thailand immediately asked the United States to withdraw the U. S. military base, because the Thai authorities believe that the United States can no longer provide protection.

These things can make America's credibility and ability questionable.

Damn. That's the problem. People trying to fix the blame, but completely ignoring the people. We never went to Afghanistan to help the people there. The offenses of the Taliban were well known long before 9/11. We didn't go there to get women out of burkhas or into schools. We didn't go to eliminate the Taliban at all, just to eliminate the Al Qaeda training sites, which we did.

Here's the thing, the people who are complaining about leaving now were all for abandoning the Kurds --who were in the process of fighting back. Rather, at the same time, anti-Muslim immigration laws were promoted, and the number of refugees was limited. If there's one thing the Biden administration could have done better, it would have been to ensure that people who helped us had a way out. Accept Afghani interpreters and their families here, of f-ing course.

Afghanistan, unlike Syria, became a cash cow for security contractors. At any rate, there was never a chance for the US to beat the natives of a country by itself. It wasn't a bad idea for Trump to deal with the Taliban; the problem was that the deal didn't include Afghanistan's elected government. That wouldn't be so relevant except that the RNC has taken off its website all references to Trump's celebration of a May 1 withdrawal. Let's see if they argue we should go back.

Afa US credibility, and if we'll stand by our allies, Afghanistan was never an ally, neither is Iraq. If there's a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, otoh, a global effort --especially including Pakistan and other Muslim countries-- is what's needed. I mean, if we're concerned about the Afghani people. Ok, if that were true, there'd be more immediate concern for our own dead, or even for the earthquake in Haiti.

Join Our Mailing List to Save U.S. Interpreters

No One Left Behind is the only nationwide nonprofit committed to ensuring that America keeps its promise to our allies and their families who risked their lives for our freedom, just like Janis Shinwari who saved 5 American soldiers.

Sadly, we have recorded over 300 interpreters and their family members killed because of their association with the United States.

We keep our nation’s promise by trying to fix the State Department’s 14-step SIV process with it’s 3.5 year wait time and by providing emergency financial aid and used vehicles to newly arrived interpreters.

Last year we helped 636 SIV families in 93 cities in 20 states with over $430,000, but for every family we could help, we had 4 more waiting.

Note: Afghan is a person or thing from Afghanistan. Afghani is the currency, and nothing else.

We never should have gone to war in Afghanistan, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't help those who helped us and who will now face the consequences.

Yeah, I know the convention. There's a debate because some Afghans consider Afghani offensive. Otoh, an "afghan" is also a rug, and we call the people of Pakistan, Pakistanis. Capitalization or specifying doesn't help, so I'll use Afghan to avoid offending anyone.

I am unaware of any debate. Afghani is just a mistake some people make and of course that might irk someone from Afghanistan.

Yes, the rugs are Afghan, just like any person or thing from Afghanistan. Afghani is the currency and nothing else.

It bullshit Biden inherited this from Trump. Biden since day one as president was reversing trump polices like the border, Paris climate agreement, Iran deals, pipeline agreements, and many many more "deals" and presidential orders. The Trump "peace agreement" laid down a timeline without chaos and mayhem, but if all the liberal Democrats didn't have severe Trump deranged syndrome, they would have been better prepared and given Afghan force logistics and air support, but the afghan forces mentally lost. So it is owned by Biden the beheadings and rapes of Afghan people that is being reported.

Remember Trump wasnt even in politics when we first went into Afghanistan, Biden is a life long 50 year politican.... a senile, frail, and weak one. I feel sorry for South korea, Taiwan, Phillipines and other allies in the region. No confidence.

Predicton: Watch Russia just walk in Ukraine and China take over Taiwan and Biden do nothing.

Yeah, if we'd only listened to Trump, all the murders and beheadings would have been avoided. Because ... he would have made a deal with the Taliban. Doodoo. Nobody here wanted to do anything about the stonings, beheadings, monument destructions, and killings that the Taliban were doing in 2000. They certainly wouldn't have wanted to accept thousands of Muslim women who wanted to flee Afghanistan.

That's the thing; I don't give Biden a pass on how it's turning out. He's the CiC, and it's his watch. What I'm not going to do is the slimy hypocritical tactic of saying, for ex., "people die every day," "we can't be the world's policeman or emt," "we have to take care of AMERICA first." But, how about giving us some good reasons why we it was good for America to have been there for 18 out of those 20 years?

Yeah, leaving is a shit show. The Taliban aren't invaders; they live in Afghanistan and all they had to do was wait for the US to leave. The only thing the US could have done --and it would have been impossible in 6 months-- would be to make the Afghan forces strong enough to maintain their own security. It turns out that many simply took off their uniforms and left. So, who's failure was that? The Taliban were in control of Afghanistan in 2001. The U.S. led coalition forced them to flee, even though (iirc) they never claimed to have had anything to do with 9/11. Coalition forces cleared out the terrorist training camps. Why did we stay? It's not about burkhas; there's no oil; though nation re-building, construction, and providing protection for newly elected politicians made some people a ton of cash. We spent trillions of dollars, but tell us why?

Oh, another irony is that part of the Trump deal provided for the release of Taliban prisoners.

with Mariana Alfaro

President Trump warned in characteristically over-the-top terms during a political rally in Michigan on Thursday night that Joe Biden, if elected, would invite “terrorists” into the suburbs by raising the cap on the number of refugees allowed to resettle in the United States.

He made these comments as the Afghan government – under pressure from his administration – reluctantly released high-value Taliban prisoners who were allegedly involved in killing American troops.

The irony is that the ones released are the current leaders. Trump demanded they be released as part of his "peace deal." But, that still doesn't make it his fault. He just released the terrorists. However, with all the sympathy for the Afghan people, I'm sure no one will mind welcoming our anti-Taliban friends.

Predicton: Watch Russia just walk in Ukraine and China take over Taiwan and Biden do nothing.

I predict you'll call him a war monger if he does anything. Btw, Russia waltzed in a took over the Crimea and is still waging war with Ukraine on TRUMP's watch. Kim will shoot off some missiles, and you'll say that Biden is weak. "America first" is fine. But, if we're going to help people for humanitarian reasons, that's fine too. We don't want to help Afghan people. Sso, there's no need to pretend. Save the outrage.
