first part

Khalil Rountree Jr has faced criticism from other UFC stars for his devastating 'career ending' kick.

The American MMA star, 31, defeated Modestas Bukauskas, 27, with a brutal shot to the knee, bending it the wrong way in an awful visual.

The commentators and spectators were in shock after witnessing the move at UFC Vegas 36 on Saturday night.

The Lithuanian was left in excruciating pain and is awaiting the results of an MRI scan to determine the extent of his injuries.

In the wake of the fight, UFC competitors have questioned whether the move should be made illegal.

Middleweight star Kevin Gastelum tweeted: "This strike should be illegal. It is a career ender. Who can we talk to about this? @ufc.

Let's hope we figure out how to make our modern gladiators more durable :) I won't comment beyond that.

Banning it shouldn't be necessary. Then again, would fighters gouge each other's eyes out if there wasn't a rule? Why would anyone want to end someone's career deliberately? Why wasn't the move banned earlier? Did no one use it before? (I'm asking because I don't watch the videos).

i read elsewhere that objection toward this kick has been raised before since jon jones have used it dagerously during his career.
the kick should be banned, an strike to a joint is of course intentional to be crippling, there is no time for tap-outs as there is with jointlocks........but then strikes to the head a prime target in martial arts are also potentially crippling and even lethal.

i suggest semi-contact for strikers competition, and no joint crippling techniques allowed for wrestling competitors.
The UFC has brought down humanity into a dirty pit...

i feel like we are coming back to the whole reason that the Queensbury rules were formulated. Should it be banned? I suppose if groin strikes are not allowed under the UFC ruleset then knee kicks should not be allowed either, same logic? Really unsure here though... it is currently a legal technique and people should know how to defend against it I guess.

..." people should know how to defend against it I guess."
well,
they should know how to defend against groin kicks/tarring off, eyes gouging, etc., also.
We allow for "anything go", or not.
UFC came to live with this idea (any style, any weight and very small rules set)
and we get :
..."The UFC has brought down humanity into a dirty pit..."

Contemporary Gladiators Circe, is what Humankind is waiting for. (ok, big part of it)

wrist and ankle are not allowed in the UFC rules as they come in under the 'small joint manipulation' heading of the unified ruleset. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_martial_arts_rules#Unified_Rules_of_Mixed_Martial_Arts

???

Wrist and ankle locks are legal in the UFC and other MMA venues. What are you talking about?
