I haven't really been following, but I thought the four fundamental forces were weak and strong nuclear force, electromagnetism, and gravity.

How is the distinction being muddled?

Muddled, or squashed under one unifying the forces, is the goal.

some little tidbits.

if aliens were to us like we are to squirrels, they just wouldn't try too hard for too long to communicate with us ... mostly due to boredom. perhaps we just wouldn't seem that interesting.

would they be "kind" or want something? we likely don't have anything of value. gold is only valuable to humans. not to other animals. it has little intrinsic value. perhaps rare earth elements are more valuable (we use them for our tech).

alien "form". if it follows like our evolution, we will probably be genetically and cybernetically modified soon. they would be ahead of that.

AI as an existential threat. it might take 50 years before we can create robots as smart as dogs. right now they are about as smart as roaches. maybe 100 years before we can create them as smart as monkeys (who are self-aware, but can learn about 20 words tops / adult humans can learn about 5000 / human babies can learn at least one word a day). dogs think we are dogs who lead their pack. monkeys know we are not monkeys and they are not humans (so they are "self aware"). we would create a chip to prevent them harming us, but the robots would become aware of the chip and find a way to remove it safely. so some other solution would be needed. part of it could be the cybernetic modification of humans, so then we are part human / part AI anyway.

Kaku suggests we don't advertise ourselves because aliens might be like us. Even if not evil, they might just not care about us. He also says the universe is full of resources. Hmmm, so why would they come here for anything. Imo, it's more likely that they'd already know how to find what they were looking for, and it wouldn't be beings like us. Iow, they'll be able to predict and find what they need.

What do you think about the prediction that they'd have to come from someplace with land --because you can't have technology without fire -though there's plenty of volcanic fire under the sea. It's just that, sea creatures often have flippers or claws instead of fingers --with opposable thumbs. Oh well, maybe that's just the way the evolution cookie crumbles. Somewhere in the universe, this could be true. Alas, if we meet them before they meet us, it'll be worse for them if we need water.

Ha yes we do need water so maybe we have a reason to take something.

He was saying we could melt the ice on Mars, I think.

(Kinda multi tasked at that point).

Producing water by melting ice sounds good for surviving on Mars. But, what about inter stellar travel? Though, getting back to aliens, maybe they'd have a galactic map of watering holes? Otoh, Earth got its water from somewhere. So, there's water out there somewhere --just because there's so much hydrogen. Hmm, but if where there's water, there's life; that means that there'll be life in the water. Would water with alien life in it be safe to drink? Or, were/are we already inhabited by alien life brought to the planet by a passing extraterrestrial object.

sara walker talks about it a little

basically just says it's possible.

I think one of the other fridman interviewed physicists said yes there is likely life elsewhere, but probably not civilizations.
