Say Google says this means legend, tradition, would it be appropriate to put on a picture of a respected taijiquan Master?

It’s a noun meaning folklore, folktales and similar. It can also be used as “according to” in daily language. No, I don’t think that a Tai Chi master could be a folklore. I don’t think it could be used as “legendary”.

But I might be wrong, my Chinese is pretty limited after all. Hope some Chinese person could chime in.

Yeah that's sort of where my thinking went. If it is like legendary master, cool, but it it's like fairy tale that might come off disrespectful

Also Google says legendary master is 传奇大师

Yeah, you could say that Yang Luchan, Chen Fake or Bruce Lee are Chuanqi, 传奇. Then it means that they are legendary, that is correct.
