And if so, are podcasts “reading”?
amateur practices til gets right pro til can't get wrong
/ better approx answer to right q than exact answer to wrong q which can be made precise /

Not really. i know people say it but it's not. People listen to them so they can do something else at the same time.

what do you think are the arguments for/against?

against:
- multi-tasking ... you might not pay as much attention
- emotions ... might be too much in the reader/narrator, and not in your brain.
- if you are "visual" and not "auditory", maybe "seeing" is better than "hearing"

for:
- not sure, but I guess you are still taking in the book.
- you can "read" many more books/year (e.g., in your commute).
- maybe the multi-tasking thing isn't that big a point as you can be distracted when "seeing" the words, too.

I don't know. I saw a WIRED article about this (but it's more fun to ask RSF people, so I won't give the article's answers or summary).
