there used to be a "Silicon Valley" that was home to all these tech booms. now, "smart kids" supposedly want to do seemingly stupid stuff like make the "next tik tok". During "dot-com 1.0", a bunch of pundits and consultants said "bits, not atoms" - only deal with "digital", not "real world" tech, software not hardware. Of course they were right in the short term (Facebook, Google, Amazon, Netflix, etc.). But wrong in the long term.

Probably more going on than a "americans are too fat and lazy for the factory to be productive" story since this industry and related ones are considered "strategic".

probably like us here, "scholars" and others also have no idea what's really happening, esp from a Chinese and African business/govt pov. but probably we/they can say vaguely that the history of the world, other than all the violence, is about whomever is in power taking away and controlling the available resources. even in the "space age" and the "4th wave", somebody has to go get the "Rare Earth Elements" so we can do dumb shit on our smartphones like post on tiktok, or less dumb shit like post on RSF. :D

if everyone's "jungle" is becoming a "garden", who is the EU or USA (first built on taking away the land from the indigenous Red Man and slave labor of the Black Man, and it just goes on and on ... the early history of the US is so boring. it should all just say European XYZ took this land away from this tribe and so on. like the history of the Mongol Empire. powerful invaders took shit through violence and disease. but no, they tell stupid, cute stories like "Little House on the Prairie". what a bunch of stupid garbage (but entertaining).) to criticize whatever. there isn't any moral high ground. but ... it's still super interesting. :P
