TL;DW: assassins were like "ninja" using disguises. Don't think that will keep you safe from the Mongolian Army.

side note:
Its [Mongol Empire] descent into chaos was signaled by inter-family rebellion across the four khanates established by Genghis Khan. As weaker Mongol leaders struggled to retain control, drought, flood, famine, and the bubonic plague eventually contributed to the collapse of each khanate.

TL;DR:
it seems like "WEATHER" and "FAMILY ISSUES" are what brought down the largest contiguous land empire ever.

That is why the Mongols are hated to this day in the Muslim world. They destroyed many capitals and struck fear into the Arab and Persian armies of the day.
In Afghanistan, anyone possessing the same characteristics (stereotypically) are castigated by Pushtuns Afghans especially Uzbeks, Tajiks and especially Hazara, who often get the brunt of ethnic violence.
The great General Dostum, ethnic Uzbek, has becomes the most hated commander because he forces retribution on anyone who mistreats his people and still has the loyalty of party.

The Assassins (often Persian) were usually hashish smoking zealots hence their name (Assassins) and because they could strike anywhere, their name carried well in that time of chaos and disorderliness ;D

not a heavy gamer (and maybe there are lots of good games on this topic already), but it just makes me think "there should be more cool video games around these characters and settings and events"
