Is Atlas Shrugging?

In Ayn Rand's libertarian masterpiece she lays the blame for society falling apart, and the needless deaths of citizens squarely at the feet of government.

But now we can see yet another example of the driving need to produce growth and profit each year to deliver value to shareholders leading to mislabelling freight to reduce transportation costs by avoiding safety precautions leading to toxic chemicals wreaking havoc on the local ecosystem.

You know, that old chestnut.

Oh wait, there are now TWO rail accidents in the US to worry about.

Remember the classics? Triangle shirtwaist factory? The hits just keep comin since before pimpin was pimpin.

Government isn't perfect but at least they have to wrap their bullshit in a pretty enough package to sell to the public. Private entities only have to sell it to the board.

"A thousand people might die, but we can save a nickel for every unit shipped."
"We are prepared to take that risk."

The deliberately miseducated will tell you all day about how many deaths have been caused by socialism and then go unironically shop at a store called Banana Republic.

Make it make sense, please.

Okay, so, no people have died as a result of the toxic cocktail spilled all over Ohio due to corporate greed, just 3500 fish, at last estimate. No big loss, just a bunch of stupid fish. There isn't a big green cloud hanging over the state so how bad can it be? Toxic chemicals are only a problem if you can see, taste, and smell them, right guys? It's gone now, right? The water and soil is safe, right?

The railroads and chemical manufacturers would never hurt Americans, that's just ridiculous.

These should definitely be getting more attention.

Sadly, the insatiable desire for ever greater wealth and power has always been a driving force in the world of business and politics, at every level both large and small, and continues to be so more than ever today. :-\

You lost me at 'masterpiece', but I recommend 'Survival of the Richest' by Douglas Rushkoff if you want to hear about how Galt's Gulch is looking in RL.

I admire Ayn Rand in an odd way only because of her experience dealing with the permutations of fascism and socialism where she states in perceptive ways
where people are beginning (and have been doing so for at least 5 decades) to accept fascist and socialist ideology enforced using democracy and its majority
concept and principle to enforce rules of politics to demand obedience knowing few people will hit back because of the force fo government.

The banning of books they don't like, forcing and dictating to educational institutions what they must teach and using the laws of the state to legally cancel institution of law and justice
that do not agrree with their warped way of life.
When fascism comes to US America, It will be wrapped in the US flag and waving a cross. An astute patriot

I could not make this up if I tried!

Ayn Rand stated that the height of government using its authority to take away from private companies and call it their own was recently accomplished 1 week ago though it has been happenning in 'secret' for 100 years and more.
Usually when large corporate entities form their own 'districts' whether it is called towns, boroughs, villages, etc they are usually responsible for infrastructure in that local district, parks, roads, and the like, as part of their
management and financial obligation for said district(s), DeSantis of Florida did not like it when Disney took a stand to support LGBTQ+ rights meaning a policy of non discrimination but the Governor did not like it so he passed
a law where his allies become the overseers of Disney while allowing the local citizens of adjoining cities to pay the difference while raising taxes of all permutations for the citizens to cover that burden.

Most of these allies do not want to see or be part of inclusion and it seems that some citizens do not either.
Here's the story: https://www.npr.org/2023/03/06/11609976 ... l-district

They love their fascism, don't they.

I weep for humanity.

The Republicans are champions of small government. So small it fits into your bedroom, so small they could drown it in a bathtub.

I mean, next you're going to tell me they're banning attempts to ban child marriage so molesters can marry their pregnant victims to avoid legal penalties and repealing child labor laws so taco bell will be fully staffed.
