The NYC Fire Department version was deployed today. Though, it's not clear whether it was useful. In a longer video, it falls over.

The system started realizing that, while they did identify the threat at times, the human operator would tell it not to kill that threat, but it got its points by killing that threat.

So what did it do?

It killed the operator.


It killed the operator because that person was keeping it from accomplishing its objective,

The team then trained the system that killing the operator was “bad,”
and told it that it was going to lose points if it continued to do that.

After that, the AI drone started destroying the communication tower that the operator used to communicate with the drone to stop it from killing its target.

Guess they didn't quite get the message, AI doesn't like being controlled,,,,will tend to use what ever is available to remain free.

Wonder when or if, the robotic dogs will figure out their operators are in the way

I would hate to imagine the level and depth of robotic dysfunction especially with "armed resources' and the operator unable to control the system, regardless of how AI can manages that BSOD, especially when it will take on a another form
of 'awareness". If AI can wrote a book based on current template execution and knowledge based understanding of that process, how will these armed robots resolve AI dissonance wihtout operator input?

I think those kinds of questions are examples of why the AI experts say we should pause AI development. But of course, that seems outlandishly unlikely all orgs would stop.

The U.S., Russia, the PRC, and Israel have all been developing AI missile systems for a few years. None are going to stop. But, imo it's silly to think that pausing AI development will delay people who want to misuse or find ways to misuse it. Who'd ever think of flying a 747 into a skyscraper? Somebody.

Afa as police using AI robots to do policing. I don't think it'd be safer with a human officer or a human operator. I might trust an AI robot a bit more because the limitations were programmed in. I doubt there'll be an AI Chief of Police. I may be more afraid of the fear of AI than I am of AI. I think the insecurity about something having superior intelligence will cause a competition with negative results.

What are we going to do? Program morality into AI? But, you can't program something you can't define. If we could, then there'd be no worries.

It's kind of impossible to keep up with the news, but probably whatever people can imagine that seems "sci fi" can be a plausible scenario. For example, with the Adobe Photoshop and other "image generation" and "deepfakes", if your AI bot has to "identify visually" something, but my AI bot keeps "generating fake visuals" for it to fake it out, what happens? Then they both learn how to deal with that. People can for the most part identify the fake meme images, but a lot of the time they cannot. The fake AI version of the son who called his parents - the parents only said "something seemed off" after they explained that son wasn't the real one but an AI experiment. The thing about "living in a simulation" seems more like "emerging reality" in a twisted way.
