"dragged into degeneracy"

maybe it would be funny if it's just martial arts forums with middle school boy bluster level of dialog and braggadocio. what's disturbing is humans always seem to be getting dumber. are we just a continuance of rec.martial-arts stupidity here? or part of the broader trend? :-\ :P

I dunno, man, I'm here to talk about gongfu. Some folks would rather talk about me. They should start a discord or something.

Man he was such a brilliant guy.

I dunno; personally, my behavior online (interacting with people) improved dramatically since the days of RMA. Like another brilliant guy (Douglas Adams) wrote, "You live and learn. At any rate, you live." :)

Even in the old Greek people worried about the decay of the youth and what the future would become.

I believe that as when we get older, we understand better how dumb people (we) actually are. It’s astounding that we manage to preserve the knowledge of past generations and develop it further, despite how stupid we are.

Hmm, have we gotten dumber, or have we just not gotten any smarter? That's why history seems to repeat. Anyway, the young have rarely listened to the old except in societies where age is revered. But, then that makes change of any sort very slow. Dumbness is just another yin yang thing.

Lately I've been reading the series of books that begins with Sapiens and continues with Homo Deus.

Dumber? Don't really think so.
Happier?

might be a better question, depends what you are into I suppose.

my kids (and I'll over generalize to USA Gen Z) seem to do some dumb stuff (like lots of tik tok haha) and don't seem to read (youtube is the long form), don't seem to have good critical thinking, but in many ways they are way "smarter" / more "advanced" (if life were just a board game) than I was. they accomplished more "corporate" stuff at an early age. happier? hmm, no idea.

as a cynical, apathetic Gen X guy, I kinda look to Gen Z to "save the world" so hoping they are a lot smarter. we seem to need it.

AI might do the intelligence job for us anyway
we probably just need to chill for a bit.

Vacay with the fam
burn fires on the beach
meditate in huts
drink a bit of Malibu Rum

that kind of thing
let the robots do all the lifting and punish the horrible people.

These two are pretty cool to watch/listen together... Wish they were in-rhythm (synched up).

Are there any funerals for online persona(litie)s? There damn well should be, given how "real" they sometimes feel...

Not too get off topic here, but has anyone else had other forum members pretend to be them and contact OTHER forum members outside this site, like in email or their direct messages on a blog or something? More than once?

Anybody else the target of paranoid delusions involving cyber -crime?

I know to a certain extent I bring it upon myself by being a loudmouth where mentally unstable people can hear it, but boys, please, don't be so obsessed with me.

Star Wars is science fiction, it's not meant to be a documentary.... I think Segan could do with a lesson on the meaning of art, despite his numerous degrees.
