we're not even allowed to say "gay" in Florida American English, not sure how we'll learn other languages

No doubt. I'd make a mess of things.

You should be in charge. How would you fix things?

I wouldn't. Things are going fine as they are. If people want to change they will. If people want different outcomes they will find a way to achieve them.

My messing in things would only make it worse. Too stupid to be in charge, personally.

I was paraphrasing Plato earlier.

“One of the penalties of refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.”
― Plato

Of course it's a little different in the original Dutch...

Interesting, you can speak Dutch?

Plato was still governed by his peers tho. There's never a single individual who can't be put down by a group working together.

Diogenes was cool.

No, but neither did Plato.
And of course Socrates was the victim of a political assassination.

something Sam Altman (OpenAI) said is that over the next decade, the "cost of intelligence" and the cost of energy will go way, way down. it seems that just means we head to a "WALL-E" world faster.

- travel could be more affordable
- shipping goods is faster/easier
- you can order whatever you want whenever you want.
- you can sit in your floating chair, plugged into the "Matrix" or doing some kind of tourism.
- a few people can learn anything they want.
- there is still a giant heap of electronic trash.
- climate change: guess it depends in part on what is that energy source, what is happening with the production/demand of/for junk

this really doesn't sound that much better than right now, lol.

Today Google asked me if I wanted to try their new AI to search the internet. I passed.

FWIW, I've been using that "AI search" thing for a while now (I have Pixel 7 Pro so I probably got that offer before most people?) - was just curious.
It's not only harmless, but (to me) almost completely useless. 99% of the time I end up scrolling past it to look at the default answer/result.
It's basically a short, easy-to-read summary of the first few (i.e. the most reliable/best) search results, with each sentence or clause having little links referencing the source result. Google went the safest round possible with this for accuracy, I think, and even then it's sometimes a bit off (although that's very rare). All with a big disclaimer at the top that the generated info/text below might be unreliable. Just FYI

Imagine if you will that as a kid in school you could just go see the local PhD turned meth addict and for the cost of a box of Sudafed you could get him to write as many essays as you wanted, but there was no guarantee that half the content wouldn't be pulled directly out of thin air.
