as i recall reading - Da Liu had been a long time taiji teacher at the UN. And yes it seem from this article that he was kind of the nave of taijiquan in NY seeminly untouched by any controverces among the other teachers.

I should point out the short form he taught was CMC’s 37 with some of the missing movements put back
A lot of his students did the same thing

From what I've heard he had tuberculosis and was unhealthy most of his adult life because he was constantly struggling to breathe.
