Memorial Day isn't about patriotism; it's about remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It's also for their families as a way to show sympathy and appreciation. It may also give some small comfort to the guy or gal who will be dying today and tomorrow.

There is none of us but must come to bereavement and separation,
when all the answers we are offered
