What are you reading?

Rum, beer, movies, nice websites, gaming, etc., without interrupting the flow of martial threads.

Since last check, I ate through Chuck P's Diary, Haunted, and Invisible Monsters, and then Fahrenheit 451, Heart of Darkness, and I'm in the middle of Heinlein's "Star Beast" at the moment.

And I got a chapter of the novel drafted, giggity-giggity.

pretty good read. He's translated a lot of documents and many of the stele at the site
and come up with a fairly accurate portrayal of what the Shaolin monastery is and historically how it has functioned since Tang dynasty.

It's a good read for any martial arts enthusiast.

I recently read "The Last Patriot" by Brad Thor, it was good.
It's kind of like the DaVinci Code, but for Islam.

I'm currently reading like 3 books. The Whirling Circles of Ba Gua Zhang by Frank Allen and Tina Zhang. Combat Techniques of Taiji, Xingyi and Bugua by Lu Shengli. And Star Wars Coruscant Nights II: Streets of Shadows.

interesting, but his theories certainly seem to make some people go CRAZY-APESHIT, especially some people who would rather the relative pioneer be a white-skinned gentleman, and not a eunoch...

~ It is an 'interesting' book to say the least. The vast huge majority of historians an Asian studies types I know hate the book for almost everything. Beside the fact that the author is a nautical engineer and not a trained historian, no one else has presented this theory before, and basic documentary, archeological, and associated historical research point to the book being wrong on almost everything~
~ On the plus side, it has gotten a lot of people interested in Asian studies, History, Chinese studies etc... That can only hopefully lead to more students at Universities and more funding for their departments!

~ Chesterton has to be one of the most interesting and prolific writers in the past several hundred years. His writtings will make you think for sure. More often than not, he turned out correct in his analysis and predictions as well. To boot, he is among the top five or so quotable authors.
