Can you not csv export the data from the other site and re-import it into the appropriate record sets in the MySQL back end of this one?
I have a Perl based yabb board, so i am not sure if you can do it same same with the cgi version of yabb.

but, if you can, you can probably port the site content back in, or you can use the method you're using now.
I think we are all pretty fresh from the shift so it might not take long to fill the content here.

There is likely to be intuitive similarities across the versions so long as the language is same same.

database porting isn't new though it just gets confusing if you forget one little thing and then nothing works lol.
do your back ups first, do a dry run shutdown import/export at a time where there is the very least amount o members on.
warn everyone about it, and away you go.

you may have to ask the physical server admin for help if you do not have direct access because you will be required to change a couple of things directly related to the server software.
