I find it a pitiable way to get a laff, but then you have to get the Christian perspective. It's okay to make fun of us, many do, but if behind that you reject Jesus' message, that is your loss.
There is an easy evasion to the message, to be found in wisecracks and pointing at foolish messengers. Don't do that, you you will miss the point!
Take this recent Chick Tracts thread. Many Christians are a bit put off by Jack Chick's cartoons too, and I sometimes wish Chick would read a theology book.
How many Democrats are entirely on board with Oliphant cartoons?
I wish the Mary cheese sandwich nonsense had never happened, for it detracts from the message by making the matter seem ridculous. I would offer that there is something nonridiculous underneath it all, rather in the way you do not reject martial arts out of hand on account of some cheeeeeeee ball throwing lunatics.
Trying to keep things light here. We'll see how that works.

I define internal martial art as unusual muscle recruitment and leave it at that. If my definition is incomplete, at least it is correct so far as it goes.
