Welcome to the new fascist state

This really pisses me off. I mean, copyright is OK to the extent where it protects the rights of the authors. But now, the governement is protecting the rights of companies. What is really enraging, is the anti-circumvention laws. I mean, now there is even a business alliance against this shit: Rogers, Telus, Google, Yahoo etc, that's how bad it is.

Soon, you'll be sued if you use your toothbrush to clean anything but your own teeth. It is ridiculous that once you buy something, especially electronics, you can't use it except how the manufacturer instructs you to. This is ass raping the people by companies while being watched by the governement (who in fact is mandated to protect the PEOPLE not the fucking corporations).

I've been saying this stuff for years now, but people just are not interested. As long as they can watch their American Idol, listen to their Ipods's, and drive a new car, most folks will not wake up until their so-called freedom is already gone!

The government is ready to introduce controversial new copyright legislation that experts believe will introduce harsh new restrictions on downloading, copying songs to CDs and music players, unlocking cellphones and time-shifting of television shows.

So no more downloading songs from the internet...ok.

Not the end of the world IMO.

Mike, I get your point, but it always starts off with the little things. Soon the government will CONTROL the Internet and you will only be able to view what our masters will allow us to view. Look at the media now. We have like 10 guys controlling almost everything we watch and listen to. Soon it will be only 1 or 2 people who control it all. The big picture does not look good.

It's like the old saying goes... ...... first they came for the Jews and I did nothing, then they came for africans and I did nothing, than they came for the Mexicans and I did nothing, then...... They came for me!! :'(

control isn't completely enforced, but your government controls your internet now.

In my view, the no mans land shit hole that is the internet has it's mostly shit hole-ness with the occasional haven of decent weblyness.

meh, I don't really care if the gov beats on pirates and if you want to take ipods apart and turn them into art, there is nothing stopping you.

corporations will not have the final say and when they do, then you'll see what we've been watching in movies for years.

If we are taking votes for which dystopic future we get to live in, then I vote for Dune.

That's not the bad part. The bad part is the anti-cirumvention part where you cannot do things like unlock your cell phone etc. (I suspect that Apple had a hand in this).

Only on EF can a thread on fart porn turn into a meeting of old friends.

Time for a group hug. ;)

Suspect more people like Bell or Rogers. They are the ones that have more to loose in this business. Apple wants you to play inside their toys, in their own terms of course.

Bell indeed are evil overlords and have already locked down the shit out of your phones long ago. Rogers on the other hand is more lenient and other even more so.

you can still use code in a rogers phone where you cannot on a bell phone.

for instance on a rogers phone, if you type *#06# you will generate a 15 digit code. If your phone is stolen, call em up, give em this code and it's shut down. Instead of waiting for the CSR on teh other end having to type stuff in etc etc. Very quick.

Also, you can open an automatic key entry on a car through a rogers cell phone, but you can't through a bell phone.

In fact bell cell phones are likely the shittiest ones you can get as far as freedom of use goes.

I learned that the hard way and will be looking for a koodo or a virgin next.
I'd rather give Branson my money, at least he seems partially cool as bilionaires go. lol
