Yeah, the article mentions that Rogers is against this piece of shit legislation. Bell suxx0rs when it comes to customer service for cell phones.

In any case, in Europe and I suspect Asia as well, the cell phone industry is light years ahead in terms of prices and customer support/flexibility. Even in Romania the cell networks have features that I did not see here (like using codes to check your card balance, store you SMS and incoming call numbers on the provider's server etc).

This really pisses me off. I mean, copyright is OK to the extent where it protects the rights of the authors. But now, the governement is protecting the rights of companies. What is really enraging, is the anti-circumvention laws. I mean, now there is even a business alliance against this shit: Rogers, Telus, Google, Yahoo etc, that's how bad it is.

Soon, you'll be sued if you use your toothbrush to clean anything but your own teeth. It is ridiculous that once you buy something, especially electronics, you can't use it except how the manufacturer instructs you to. This is ass raping the people by companies while being watched by the governement (who in fact is mandated to protect the PEOPLE not the fucking corporations).

Slavery is the legal fiction that a person is property.

Incorporation is the legal fiction that property is a person.

I'm just waiting for the time when you have to sign some agreement with Ford to buy a car that prevents you ever changing the original color of the paint or using parts that aren't from Ford. If it weren't for Toyota and other Japanese cars, GM and Ford would have stifled innovation and safety even further than they did.

The solution to this problem is true competition, but the corporations control the politicians, who pass laws to stifle competition to help the corporations.

Canada is basically rocketing from teh loosest copyright laws to the most stringent.

The ignorance of the proposed law is extremely evident and is being harshly criticized across the nation.

I don't think it's likely it will pass in it's current state.
Our politicos really need to brush up on their knowledge of technical issues that will be more frequent in our ever electronically dependent world.

They're like a bunch of fuckin luddites up there with glossy eyes when it comes to hollywooders whining about how they are being ripped off despite their ridiculous and huge profits and their archaic draconian backwards development and distribution system.

can't wait to see it scrapped.

You may find this interesting, it's something I just learned about, but may answer a lot of questions about corporatism (the new fascism) in America. For instance, why do political leaders cooperate so easily with corporations? I thought it was mainly due to campaign donations, but it may be something more.

Almost, I would change the second line to say "Incorporation is the legal fiction that property is an entity"

an entity with the same value, rights and considerations given in the eyes of the law as a person.

There is a US Supreme Court decision that many point to as the origin of giving corporations "personhood." Would love to see it reversed.
