and the walls came down

Where were you?

I was under one of the houses we built for Native Housing up in NWT. My buddy, Greg, and I were insulating the floor joists. It was -25 and snowing like a bastard. 2:00 in the afternoon and along comes our boss (a first generation polish immigrant) and tells us to shut it down, we were going back to the hovel we were staying in while working up there. He said we probably wouldn't be working the next day either. G and I are like, "whaaa?"

Our boss could barely contain himself and we knew something was up.

We spent the rest of that day and most of the night watching tv, eating, drinking and talking. A most righteous celebration it was.

A few questions:

- Which walls came down?
- When?
- Who is they and why are they laughing?
- Where on Earth are you that is -25 at 2pm?
- What did you know that was up?
- Why were you celebrating?

kthx

One of the stories my boss told us that day was about his uncle who came from Poland to visit the year before. They went shopping and while they were at Safeway, the uncle was like, "Is it always like this?...with the shelves full of food?"

Tom, "yes...always"

The uncle, "what happens when the shelves are empty?"

Tom, "The shelves are never empty"

The uncle started sobbing uncontrollably

I have to admit that I don't know it anymore :-[

But I know that some relatives were visiting shortly thereafter. They came with a funny little car - a Lada - and went shopping all day. They got their Ostmark exachanged with DM par on par plus 100 DM for a welcome :o

I was a Military Cop in Italy. I remember everyone playing the Skorpions song "Winds of Change" everywhere. Wish I coulda been there in Berlin when the wall came down, but it's probably better I wasn't, drunkenness plus lots of excited horny German chicks equals high probability of some kinda venereal disease... :P

Delivering pizza on my little motor bike. Came back from a run and saw it on the big screen. Went out for another delivery.
