RIP, Judo's Rusty Kanokogi (nee Rena Glickman)

Not directly to do with CIMA, but Rusty Kanokogi was a groundbreaker for women's MAs and MA sports. Not a radical, just a woman who loved judo, loved to compete, and later dedicated her life to coaching and reffing. Became a role model (despite a sad and kick-ass youth in Brooklyn/NYC... with a bayonet strapped to her leg) for girls and young people in general.

I literally just finished reading "The Pyjama Game - A Journey into Judo" by Mark Law - yesterday

He tells some amazing stories of Mrs Kanokogi - the changes she wrought in the Judo world for women should not be forgotten

Rest in Peace

I found this old (1986) article about her from the Sports Illustrated archives. Her story is a fascinating one.
