Anybody know anything about this guy? I'm reading his book on the i-ching and it's really, really good.

I was a little wary at first, because of his bio and his made up name...they have all the earmarks of a whacked out new ager....but then again they also have all the earmarks of some hip/creative genius...the two are very close sometimes...they both have no qualms about smashing into other peeps ideas about what is weird or not.

Anyhoo, the book is awesome. If anybody has more info on the guy, I'm curious.

Best,

S

I'll keep an eye out for that book.

The Taoist Sanctuary in N. Hollywood, ... now was that Sher Lu before he moved to San Deigo ?

or

The Taoist Sanctuary, left to Carl Totton ?

Sounds like an interesting cat.

By the way, - the Big Fat Chinese henchmen in the James Bond movies ( the one who threw his hat and chopped off the statue's head) was a Ba Gua Zhang man, ...

... and is said to have practiced near a Par 3 Golfcourse in L.A.

Mike

they are the same taoist sanctuary-
it was founded by Khigh_Dhiegh and Share lew

the 11th wing is a good book

--------------

if you are in LA another one to check out is Chao Li Chi
he is also an actor and was also involved in the taoist sanctuary (he is a taoist scholar)
also probably best known for his role in Falcon Crest

I think he might teach a Taiji class somewhere in LA
(i only took a seminar with him and he was very knowledgeable about taiji and about Taoism- wish i could have spent more time with him learning about taoism)

his taiji is also pretty good (i think he said he learned from his mom)- seemed to be yang but with some other elements in it kind of hints of wu style
here he is when he was really young in a short film by Maya Deren called meditation on violence
shows some of his taiji and looks like hung (but i think he said that he had also studied choylifut)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 3326940828
was filmed in 1948

here is the wikipedia on Maya Deren

Practiced some of the taoist exercises associated with the sanctuary, were very helpful.
Incidentally I think the guy in the bond film was korean and a professional wrestler

A very cool guy he used to publish "the taoist book of days" a type of almanac...
I had the one for 1980, I wrote him a letter once and he kindly replied- a real gentleman
