Crows will "murder" (:)) injured or weakened crows because they attract predators that could endanger the whole flock. (:))

There are other factors involved. Corvids (ravens, crows, and rooks) are the most human-like birds and ravens have been known to expel members as punishment for certain transgressions. Much of this type of behavior remains a mystery.

Yeah, but I was playing with the word murder. I didn't mean that was the only reason. Crows will kill rivals for mates, territorial intruders, just like other birds. Yep, corvids are the smartest birds, and humans haven't figured out all their behaviors. There are probably lots of reasons why crows were considered murderous --at least poetically. :)
