Wing Chun, where's the love?!

The following typical threads that plague martial arts sites will get moved here if not just deleted: 1 - My style is better than Your style" - 2 - "Internal & External" - 3 - Personal attacks - 4 - Threads that start well, but degenerate into a spiral of nonsense.

Wing Chun, where's the love?!

Puttiing the recent troubles well aside there still seems to be the occasional dig at Wing Chun. Anybody got any positive anecdotes?

Chris Chan, WC instructor in San Francisco and a direct student of Yip Man consistently produces some of the most hard core street fighters I have ever met. His students include a large proportion or (ironically) both LEO's and ex-cons. lol

Last time I saw him he was in his mid 70's and still kicking the shit out of 35 years olds twice his size.

I've always enjoyed both practicing the elements of Wing Chun that I was taught as part of the JKD curriculum as well as studying the history and evolution of the art into the present day. There's some good stuff in there. That said, there's so much institutional arrogance in WC that it's hard to stomach sometimes. Add that to the fact that I've tooled enough "undefeatable" WC stylists when touching hands (in a friendly or at least non-injurious way, of course) that I like to give the style a good bit of well-deserved ribbing.

There's some good wing chun over here, including one school that competes successfully in MMA and another that does san shou.

I think that the Lat Sau routines in the Wing Tsun system are very good.

The system is pretty cool and it's organized very logically, seems to have less esoteric stuff than some of the other MA available.

That said, the arrogance and the politics make it pretty unbearable sometimes. Nobody even agrees on the right way to do bridging correctly so there's no semi-consistent quality check a la push hands or rou shou. (Though yes there are big variations there too.)

It'd be nice to see more chunner's get into a mma-style event with rules better suited to what they're trying to do.

That first Chris Chan video is really cool, he's giving away the good stuff :)
