You forgot the Bruce Lee line, "The art of fighting without fighting"

This seems to be a majority viewpoint within this thread. The title of the subject however is more concerned with sparring. Sparring as I understand it is a place where one brings all their training, techniques and strategies and attempts to apply them in a spontaneous environment.

To this end one tends to bring out material from a specific type of training. If you practice tykwando, you are more likely to be up on your toes bouncing in and out of range, and attempt to play a mid to long range game. If your opponent tries to close the distance you would be quite likely to try and push them back to a distance you feel more in command with.

If grappling is your game you will most likely play a very different game and be more inclined to try and close in on your opponent when an opportunity arises or is created.

Most tai ji people I have met that actually like sparring have a strong counter game. The whole thing is very much orientated toward allowing the opponent to expose a weakness that can be exploited. There is also quite a bit of evasive movement involved. Generally the footwork demonstrated is more of the grounded variety, not much bouncing not much on the toes.

Most Hsing yi peeps I have encountered are not very interested in counters. They have more of a pressuring quality. They come and get you. They create gaps in your defenses and then move in for the kill.

Of course there are a whole lot of cross overs in something like fighting or heavy sparring that can be found. But the approach of internal artists can be enormously different depending on what they are trying to achieve and how they are trying to achieve it.

Like the word says Internal, if you can see the movement it is external, when contact is made then internal will be used, you won't see it happen only the results.

LOL, so I wait for the day that will se a pillow fight ala lingkongjin. Till now we know that the girls have to use the external movement to throw the pillow. But if the pillow has qi inside it still is internal.
I don't have a dirty mind like the other guys, I still see only a traditional pillow fight!!!

I am not talking about the pillow fight . But the pillow could be thrown from an internal engine.
