Hasn't his lawyer came out and said "nobody in their right mind would believe what he's saying" as a defense?

The legal aspect doesn't really bother me. It's the sheer lack of decency that allows someone to argue that it's okay to lie. I mean; it's one of the Ten Commandments, and at the basis of the "western civilization" he says he wants to protect. Sure, he'll say it's part of his "shtick," an act, and he may get away with it. Unfortunately, I was brainwashed to believe that lying was bad and that people shouldn't believe liars. It all started in kindergarten and Sunday school.

4. Know the Ways of all professions.
5. Distinguish between gain and loss in worldly matters.
6. Develop intuitive judgment and understanding for everything.
7. Perceive those things which cannot be seen.
8. Pay attention even to trifles.
9. Do nothing which is of no use.

Nah, IMO it wouldn't matter even if he had fully recovered -- that statement was the height of ignorance, insensitivity and self-absorption.
