Frank Allen

Frank Allen

Postby shawnsegler on Thu May 15, 2008 3:31 pm

So, I've heard Frank Allen is a good guy and all but Michael Winn puts this bio up in his latest Healing Tao retreat newsletter:

FRANK ALLEN offers a new trio of Bagua courses - Classical
Cheng, Sword, and Bagua-Xing Yi as Inner Alchemy. I rate him at
the pinnacle of Bagua Zhang teaching in the West, with his 35
years experience with many great masters. This trio doubles as
certification training, a unique integration of Tao meditation
and lineage martial arts.

Pinnacle? Really?

Well... not to put down Mr. Allen at all, I don't know him except through his articles in magazines, but yeah, "pinnacle" is probably a bit overboard.... ???

Frank is a good guy, and a GREAT Teacher, ...

... he has taken being a martial arts bum, and taken it to the level of mastery.

He is a fantastic writer, and I eagerly await anything he might have in the works.

If a guy wanted to go to NY, spend a few days, take a few classes and some privates, he would come away with something to practice.

Brouchere Blurbs are embarrassing, and Michael Winn's are among the cheesiest around -puke-

... but Frank is really cool, and if he was teaching alchemy anything I would sign on in a heartbeat.

Yeah I've trained with Frank in NYC a number of times, and always it's been a great experience. He is old school in just about every sense of the word. His knowledge of combat sports, boxing, internal martial arts and CMA in the US is like an encyclopedia. There are very few who wouldn't benefit from training with him. I always visit when in NYC.

Having had the pleasure of knowing and training with Frank, I can say his skill and knowledge are really up there...
I can honestly say that I have seen few people who truly live for their art as much as Frank does.....To say his knowledge is vast is really not an understatement...

I'm curious, is this what the "pinnacle" is teaching?

I think the issue here is with Winn. Why would anyone give a rats patoot about his opinion? He's a dilettante.
