Steve,

The reason I say this is an extension of the Cold War isbecause Crimea became a part of the Ukraine during the Cold War when the Soviet Union was united.

Oh, you mean when the Soviet Union was disbanded. Yes, but that was just a geopolitical agreement. It could just as well be part of Russia. The issue, imo, is how Russia is taking it over under the pretense of liberation. This is more like a typical imperialist land grab from the 20th century.

Right, my point is the situation was supposedly resolved in 1994 when the countries separated but were united politically. My point is history never dies as can be seen when the Russians claim that the Ukrainians are nazis.

when the Russians claim that the Ukrainians are nazis.

That's the new thing. I thought it was almost funny when the first claims were made that this was done to protect immigrants, native Russian speakers and Jews. And, it's great to have referendum or election when the polls have guys in black uniforms with no insignia protecting the polling places.

The parallels to past history is striking. Maybe it's inevitable.

Only the Party of Hitler was defeated; Not Nazis

USA and EU Are Erecting a Nazi Regime on Ukrainian Territory

Natalia Vitrenko
February 23, 2014
Statement of Natalia Vitrenko of The Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine
Translation of: http://www.vitrenko.org/start.php?lang= ... e_id=19019

MAIN POINT:
World War II only defeated the Party of Hitler but the cult of Nazism still reigns/ If you look at all the National EU parties, they all bow down to the Nazi tools of self expression. Even the alleged downgraded Eastern European people, who were claimed to be on the lower end of their totem p[ole, ofetyn subscribe to this Nazi propaganda. And it USA Nazi Party propaganda has a strong hold on the attribute of 'freedom of expression. End Result: Neo Nazis raison d'etre was never defeated in the last world war! It just morphed into copycat templetaes like the present al Qaeda franchises.
Just sayin" ;D

The story is part of a disinformation campaign though it does express solidarity for Ukraine! Just as Russia for Russian, the as Ukraine for Ukranians though Russia and Ukraine have nee tied to the hip for a long time. Ukranians have a right to their language so Ukraine being the main language is the same as English for USA. I see no problem here! Putin, as former head of KGB, knows about psychological operations and he will get as much as he wants if he follows some members of US Congress and their HATRED OF Obama. Putin's knows he can milk that advantage by being in agreement with this US segment and get as much as he wants. Funny thing is that it will only work with the present dynamic. Since facts are stubborn things, the EU knows and so does Russia, that the latter violated its territorial integrity with Ukraine and according to international law, Russia needs to be punished. Who has the ballz to punish Russia? US has no interest there but Putin and Russia cannot be trusted though it has a right to its areas of influence just as US had right of interest over Cuba! 8-)

Interestingly, when Ukraine and Russia parted ways, one of the first negotiating tools was that Ukraine get rid of its nuclear arsenal? What goes around, comes around? There are many people who must never be trusted ;D

..."when the Russians claim that the Ukrainians are nazis..."

Bandera was the name of Ukrainian bad guy from end of the IIWW.
His army has long record of killing innocent peoples along Polish -Ukrainian border.
He is kind of famous between some Ukrainian as free fighter.
Well, from our /Polish/ point of view - he was murderer ,
for some Ukrainians - he fought for free Ukraine, doesn`t matter that under nazis label...

I was thinking about whether they would be demanding a referendum. Putin could send in the troops to make sure it was a fair election. But, I wonder what'll happen when Russia wants Alaska back?
