It was also at the time when fathers weren't allowed anywhere near the childbirth process/mother/baby for at least several days. So maybe not as much "joy" -- don't think men usually faint from joy; but they do faint (even today) from witnessing the various stages of the birthing process, as we all know. Perhaps, because of those restrictions, it was enough for that guy to just see the end result to faint. Who knows, maybe observing the process itself would have sent him into a coma or gave him a heart attack...
