meh.. I didn't like it. To be honest, I've never been a fan of big circular parries that involve sticking and redirecting the arm like that. #1 it's too slow... and even done at actual speed, if he feints or the timing is off even half a beat you're going to eat a fist.

It's like this one cimande video I saw where the uke leaves his arm out while the defender redirects it in a circle, grabs it with the other hand, punches the fist with his fist and then does a wristlock. I remember thinking, if I tried that against a determined attack I'd get steamrolled. I prefer the applications that take the line and go right in.

Maybe if he showed the hits it would be more convincing, but as it is I'm not too impressed. :-\

I understand your point, but he looked like he was doing a very small circle when he parried, rather than a big one, so I think he could use it effectively against some opponents (not necessarily all).

The attackers fully extended punch is over a foot from the target.
What is the point?

Well sometimes people will throw jabs even if they're not quite in range, just to keep a person away or whatever.
Or it could just be an exercise. ;D

I think Mr. Fox has enough skills to make his method work. How many of us have been training continuously since we were lil tykes? I know someone who is training with him. It would be interesting to see how this method transfers to a non-Warren Fox.

Has been discussed before . . .

Despite the obvious distance problem.

I don't like trying to come over top of a jab and direct it downward. Also a jab is a non-committed punch which is very difficult to stick to and follow.

Circles in Bagua don't always have to be visibly expressed. The circling --or coiling-- can happen internally and manifest itself externally as a seemingly lilnear strike. Against uncommitted jabs, I'd much prefer Yin style's piercing palm.
