Whats that supposed to mean?

a peng app i like during push hands:
step in, "ward-off" forearm goes under opponents armpit while the supporting hand controls his wrist. upward into his armpit, while downward and back with his wrist, extending his arm and locking his shoulder, getting him up on his toes. turn your waist and away he goes!

app for an that has worked during sparring a couple of times:
both of my hands slap his hands down sharply, after his hands are travelling down, both of my fists hit his face.
(this one needs timing, which is why i can't get it to work all the time--my timing still needs work! :) )

you can't question the classics - they're infallible :)

dismissive remarks like "I don't see any peng" have little to do with knowing tai chi chuan either.

everyone is an expert

and the same criticism would apply to you, no doubt.

thank you, guys, for posting these clips. very neat indeed.

chicagoTaiJi, it is probably too much to ask you for your own video, but I'd like to know what does peng look like, in your opinion? Maybe post a link to someone else's clip where you "see peng", and elaborate a little what exactly is it that you see there that you're not seeing here.
TIA

I agree w/ what Imon is saying here. I love watching Su's videos. He seems to be playing with the movements all the time, seeing what different patterns/intents bring to the table. Sure beats doing the form the "right" way every time to me. It makes me glad to see someone with such an unorthodox exploratory approach to single man drilling be such an incredibly badass fighter.

the answer would be no,

it is not peng.

1. what happenned is that he slapped down at the opponent's right wrist and above his right elbow,

2. he got close, he did a couple strikes with left forward hand, while his right hand controlling the opponent's right wrist.

3. with one hand controlling the wrist and the other hand controlling the head or neck joint, and hooking the opponent's ankle/leg, he threw the opponent.

the main thing is that we have to tap down the right wrist and above elbow first then get closer.

so that the opponent may not advance his right elbow.

that was why I said he used the final posture and started from there.

and not starting from somewhere else and ended with the final posture.

these are obvious to other posters, too.

but if you wants to get technical.

1. when he used his right hand to contact and grab the opponent's right wrist, there is a peng from his palm before grabbing.

2. when he used his left forearm to contact above the opponent right elbow first, there was also peng from the his left forearm.

in slow motion of the first moves. @ 0.13.

He checks, switches hands, and the second peng would have rocked the guy despite his hand being up due to the angle. That's peng, the posture. The secondbackhand to the gut is also peng...yes, it can go downwards. He uses lu, peng, lu, peng, and ji to squeeze/close for the final strike. In terms of whole body energy (peng jin), it's there in every movement and strike. If you expected to see flowing tui shou type moves than you are simply naive.
