That Chen second routine is a great aerobic workout.

Nice forms work, but I was hoping it would be a demo of fa jin into a pad or person. Unfortunately, I am disappointed again in what people actually consider real fajin.

I have never even seen a demonstration of Chen Style Fa Jin into a pad or person. It is quite a strange situation.

On the video are the feet supposed to slide around like that when expressing force, not doing chen style i have no idea if that is an error or correct. For me it is an error, but again, i dont do chen style.

Thanks in advance.

My thought exactly, though I have seen this many times in different Chen stylists performances. A broad stance doesn't mean that you are rooted. If the feet are not rooted, the whole body will bounce away from the target upon impact. It might look impressive, but it will have little use as it lacks the body support needed for penetrative, damaging force. Let us just say that maybe he focus more on "shaking" than stability for demonstrations purpose? :P

He is doing the form on a basketball type of surface with shoes that apparently don't grip, so I think he is just sliding across the floor from the momentum of the fajin.

Haven't found any clips of fajin being used live in a free form setting..
One would think that those that advocate it would be able to express it
in any setting....

Note: the clip is for illustration only not a comment on the teachers or skill.

As some have noted there seems to be a store release cycle that in reality
one may not have the time to complete or be denied the opportunity to do so in the examples that most
usually show, when asked about fa-jin.

I can use it pretty much whenever I want, so can my teacher and so can his teacher and his teacher.
What you are usually seeing when somebody does fajin, is what would be considered a dry fire. because there is no Arrow or load on the bow, the bow vibrates much more. In actual use much of that vibration is not visible because of the load.

One of my main Karate teachers and good friend told me that when he was a teenager and studied karate back in Malaysia they sometimes practiced on big steel ship plates that their teacher had poured oil on, very slippery he said

Sounds like the Budokan guys
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

When I lived in Tokyo, we worked just down the road from the Budokan. Could never walk past it without thinking "Ozzy Osbourne"
