That gal's spear is in general ok, but is also lacking.

You may view her doing more here

No flashy hop around Wushu form for sure. But I can show and teach you the basics.

I’ve never practiced any spear, but wouldn’t the important point of it be to as much as possible have it lined up in such a manner that the opponent just can see the tip of the spear ? And from there with good timing make thrusts. If the spear is lined up like that opponent will have some difficulty to estimate correct distance ?

Bao you mentioned the first form shown was not good
I just wondered what you thought was good
The forms I do are like his full circle 360 degrees
When we practice two man we only use a small part of that circle
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

This isn't spear, but it's Xingyi. This is a video Ray Hayward has up on his new school's Media Page (https://mindfulmotiontaichi.com/home/media/) demonstrating the Xingyiquan Kwandao

Really enjoying the xingyi threads lately. I don't know if that weapon is heavy (doesn't look like it), but the bagua heavy weapons probably reinforce "whole body" movement (how can you only use arms if it's heavy).

There may be other ways of developing the power/shen fa in Xing Yi but without the da qiang training simple spear forms seem empty. Of course this may simply be my bias having trained in baji (without da qiang training, you are buying the saddle without the horse - forgot the master this quote came from). But this foundational training seems to be found in a lot of "internal" systems.

I recall even seeing in book & video (VCR LOL):
https://books.google.com/books/about/Wi ... esMAEACAAJ
Wind Sweeps Away the Plum Blossoms: The Principles and Techniques of the Yang Style T'ai Chi Spear and Staff Stuart Alve Olson 1985 - video shows old clip of Yang stylst training with it.

Suspect they just don't have access to larger spears but the training is pretty close to what I know

Hey all. Thanks a ton for the thoughts, I appreciate them. The backstory behind this is that a student showed up with a spear and asked if I did spear. I personally don't but tried to quickly throw down something that a buddy of mines teacher did. That's a totally impromptu vid on something I'm a total beginner at. Lol

Please don't read more into this than me just screwing around with something I saw a couple times but never really practiced.

Thanks again for taking the time to watch and give feedback though!

Thanks for giving background and for stopping by to say hi. Appreciated. 8-)

I see that you have been a member before and lurked around for some time. Hope you'll stay around this time.

Doesn't look exactly like it was the first time you did it, that is why people start to read in too much in it. Take it as a compliment.
