Tongue on roof of mouth

Postby aiasthewall on Fri Mar 01, 2019 7:08 pm

I have been thinking about the tongue/throat area since I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea about 2 years ago. The subject title stricture is everywhere, but there is more to it than I thought. I had always placed the tip of the tongue lightly on the palate, and ignored the large base. The tongue is a powerful muscle, and the idea seems to be to put the entirety of the tongue on the top palate, not just the tip. If one smiles like a crazy person and raises there eyebrows and swallows, this will put the tongue in the correct position. The tongue kind of lifts the head and neck into the the correct position as well.

It's not a natural (for me) position at all, and it takes some force or muscle to get it in the right spot, though I imagine it will get easier over time. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

It's not supposed to be done forcefully, and it's supposed to be for qigong purposes, but that's interesting about the neck.

I know the qiqong reasons of connecting the channels, but often there seem to be connected physiological reasons for these things. The connection of the neck and thus shoulders indicates this to me.

And I think if the muscle is properly conditioned it won't be forceful, but it the beginning of takes a little force.

Yeah I guess how much force is force just depends. I've only tried barely putting it there to try to see if that will help the microcosmic orbit.

Not sure if the dentist reasons for doing this match up to the qigong or IMA reasons (although perhaps there is some happy coincidence).

If you relax your face, jaws and neck the tongue will spread upwards like a fan. It just means that you relax properly. Nothing else necessary.

Just put your tongue tip behind the 2 front teeth and stop worrying so much.

You’re not going to feel anything unless you have reverse breathing going on.

I don't worry but simply found it interesting that the tongue has such a direct connection with the placement of the head and spinal health.

Try going five years without real REM sleep, you'd be interested as well.

I do reverse breathing and related practices. But I've found physical adjustments have positive (or negative) consquences for qiqong work. Any improvement thereof seems important.

Have you tried sitting or lying down qigong instead?

Ah, I see.

Have you tried a consistent 20 mins zhan zhuang per day?

That seems to make a real difference to posture all by itself. Lets the body rebalance.

Here are some tips:

Hello, I'd like to maintain a 'cool post count' of 108 posts. This particular post has gone beyond that number and has therefore expired.

I'm sorry if you were looking for some old information but I'll do my best to answer you if you send me a DM with a question in it.

Is the guy in the OP suggesting we walk around forcefully pressing the tongue into that position as much as possible? Not sure what the context is, but continually flexing those muscles seems completely unnatural.
There are many ways to have good posture while loosening things instead of tightening them.
