This is Niu Chunming, who was listed as a disciple of Yang Chengfu, but actually got most of his art from the father, Yang Jianhou. He was known as one of the most skilled of that generation of Yang style, along with Li Yaxuan, Tian Zhaolin, etc.

I think it is a cardinal sin to 'lean' like that in the Chen Man Ching Style ;)

Really like the performance by Niu Chunming. I have watched this video many times over the years, he is super smooth and rounded.

Here is another nice old timey Yang style demonstration by Tung Ying-chieh.

Same here! One of my favourite Tai Chi solo performances as well. 8-)

If Niu Chunming got most of his taiji from Yang Jianhou, it would have been great if he demonstrated that instead of the Yang Chengfu simplified version.
I don't think I've ever seen a direct student of Jianhou demonstrate that version of Yang style

maybe he liked the YCF's version more and stuck with that. if go into the internal mechanics its the same. and outwardly there not much differ either. also the YCF form had small differences among his diciples

This. This is not directed at you PennyKid but just as a larger general observation.

I do find it interesting that most Taiji people constantly talk of principle, concept and the fact that its whats going on inside that matters .... but then proceed to critique the external appearance of forms etc. The two viewpoints always seemed at odds to me.

Ultimately if Niu Chunming were to just make stuff up and move about in a random way, i think it would still be a valuable demonstration of Taiji, if we accept the body method, concept and principle approach. YMMV.

Thanks.

You can't always see when someone has hidden dynamics
You can see when they dont
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

I like the Chengfu form. I've been practicing it for years. I just wanted to see his father's form from a direct student. I've seen the Jianhou form from students of students and they all seem to be quite different. Just curious what Yang Jianhou's form actually looked like.
Reading Tian Zhaolin's description, it sounds like it was quite beautiful
