Sounds like the project of a lifetime.

You may want to move this to the main forum for more attention.

I wish you good luck. If you can spot "real" old Shaolin, well, that would be great. Don't know exactly what you mean with "Old Shaolin", but usually something else than Long Fist is meant.

one would think that there would have been "shaolin" related martial arts being practiced in villages around in Henan not to far away from the shaolin such as the Chen village ? but those village arts probably died out since they probably never where introduced in the capital (beijing). maybe the OP has got an lead on something still around somewhere in Henan ?

Yes, I have watched it. And did so again to see if I missed anything. Going out to villages a bit far out seems interesting.

chenyaolong, i have told myself to not comment in the video links section since i have trouble to open youtube videos, but this time it itched in the writing fingers. I understand you have been around(in china) enough to know that one dont go to the shaolin temple to find out more about "old" shaolin martial arts(well maybe there are some old stuff that has been reintroduced/reinvented), but instead probably have got some lead to something of interest elsewhere around in Henan. Hope you find some interesting stuff, good luck.............maybe publish some of it on the chinese tubes also ??

Ah ok, well in a nutshell I am heading to some villages around the Dengfeng area to interview some folk masters who are teaching Shaolin styles from before the re-opening of the temple in the 80s. The main styles are Hong Quan, Tongbei Quan, Luohan Quan and Xinyi Ba.
