Yi Long: Not a Shaolin Monk — Ramsey Dewey

Shanghai based MMA coach Ramsey Dewey responds to the thousands of comments claiming that Chinese professional kickboxer Yi Long is both a Shaolin Monk and an MMA fighter. Neither of these things are true. Yi Long is a monk in the same way as the Iron Sheik from the WWF pro wrestling days was Persian royalty. In short, it’s a gimmick. Why do gimmicks like this work to attract fans to combat sports? Simple: without the narrative structure of a story behind the fight, to the common man, it’s just incomprehensible chaos in a ring:

This video is about 10 years overdue lol.

Yilong's dubious identity as a Shaolin Monk has been widely questioned ever since 2009 when he first appeared on a nationally televised fighting tournament.
The fact that he is a Sanda guy as opposed to a real monk is pretty much public knowledge in CMA circles and among combat sport enthusiasts here in Asia.

Pro Tip:
Any time you see a chinese guy with the word "long" (dragon) in his name,
make a polite exit and avoid
lot's of drama, lot's of point to proof, lot's of issues

like the yin and yang diagram of opposites:
if the name has "long", then it is completely lacking in the qualities of "long"

My wife has a student who had trouble to say long, so I told him to say it the Chinese way(dragon) and that worked very well.....The dragon is the most powerful of the creatures in the Chinese zodiac then the tiger then the horse and so on. In the West peoples choosed power animals as bear, wolf, eagle....some choosed to namethemselves as pressious metals and stones.......I all in the name

Yilong, one dragon, would be a bad connotation in Catholicism, as St. Georg defeats the dragon, symbolizing the devil, with his lance, riding a horse. Here in TW, it's always a good omen. When I captured a snake, the old lady next door told me to set it free, as it is a dragon without legs, lol. The rest of the neighbors wanted me to kill the venomous bamboo viper, hehe! I did set her free!

but i think what Obama said... stop flexing
Southerner's (Chinese), like my forefathers, generally tend to avoid strong names,
instead most choose very common names like dog, pig... and don't we have a Dai Xinyi
Grandmaster name Second Mule.
