I can tell you that it is sobering to see mobile morgues set up in your city. My eldest son was born in this hospital 42 years ago to the day. It was also there during 9/11.

Temporary mortuaries have also been set up in London, Madrid, and have been for a long time in Italy. Btw, we'll pass Italy by the end of the day.

AP - China bars most foreigners to curb imported virus cases
Beginning March 28, which is like tomorrow-ish in China.
This is for anyone entering China on a visa, including family, spouse, student, etc. Only exception is C visa for vessel crew.

Public gatherings limited to 10 by Governor Abbott a couple of weeks ago.

Most churches basically closed. No reports yet I've heard of Dallas churches cheating.

County by county can decide to "shelter-in-place" based on Governor's order. Dallas county began lockdown on Tuesday midnight to last until April 3. We have virus cases and lots of homeless, as well as a high percentage of those without health insurance, etc., so trying to "flatten the curve" in order that the big public hospital does not get overwhelmed.

Dentists allowed to do emergencies, but not normal visits. Pets allowed to receive care, food, etc.

Counties around Dallas have not locked down, so you have to drive in order to get non-food items.

Plano City police announced they will not contact people face-to-face for most misdemeanors, as did Dallas.

Costco and Whole Foods are regulating numbers allowed in at one time.

Most grocery stores limit how many of certain things you can buy, but self-checkout usually defeats it from what I've seen recently, which seems fine as stuff is getting re-stocked.

Traffic is light. Things seem okay.

Gas is $1.65 and as low as $1.45 at membership type places. Thanks, Vlad!!!

The US just passed Italy and China to become #1 in confirmed cases. Same advice: Do what you personally CAN do to limit the further spread as much as possible.

Masks would have been the best way to limit the spread.

COVID-19: U.S. at a Glance* Saturday (2/14/20)
Total cases: 1,629
Total deaths: 41
Jurisdictions reporting cases: 47 (46 states and District of Columbia)

Total cases: 3,487 Monday
Total deaths: 68
Jurisdictions reporting cases: 53 (49 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and US Virgin Islands)

Total cases: 4,226 Tuesday
Total deaths: 75

Total cases: 7,038 Wednesday
Total deaths: 97

Total cases: 10,442 Thursday
Total deaths: 150

Total cases: 15,219 Friday
Total deaths: 201

Total cases: 33,404 Monday (2/23/20)
Total deaths: 400

Total cases: 44,183 Tuesday
Total deaths: 544
Jurisdictions reporting cases: 54 (50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and US Virgin Islands)

Total cases: *55,234 Wednesday *from Johns Hopkins because the CDC site updates very late
Total deaths: *802

Total Cases: *69,197 Thursday *
Total deaths: *1046

Total cases: *86,012 Friday *
Total deaths: *1,300

Good news and bad in the last figures. The percent of deaths can be found by dividing 1,300 by 86,012 and then multiplying by 100. So, the percentage is 1.5%. That's the same as it was for Thursday, and hasn't gone up.

The bad news will depend on the number of new confirmed cases because that will ultimately determine to final figures. I.e., it may be 1.5% of (X) and X is not 1/3 the population. Even if the percentage is .1% (i.e., 99.9% not 98.5%) simply don't die, the numbers are large.

Well, let's say that it's gonna be either 1.5% (which it is) or .1%, which would be great. The only question now is how we can limit the spread as much as possible.

In the report Dr. Fauci now argues that the mortality rate of the coronavirus may be much closer to a very bad flu

If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968)

rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.2

Yep good news.
Now that people understand what they need to do maybe the numbers will even go down more ,
for this and future outbreaks

Yep, if "people" understand, maybe.

Michael, not only has it surpassed the demand from 9/11. It has surpassed it every day for a week, and it will probably continue. Why? Because there are only X ambulances, and only X ambulance drivers. 2000 police officers have tested positive for covid19 so far. I'm not sure of the number of firefighters, ems workers, and sanitation workers.

A triage tent has been set up outside Mt Sinai hospital. Of course, many people understand what that means. Deaths are not really a problem in terms of hospital beds. The dead are moved to morgues, and there are temporary ones already set up. Even if the mortality rate is 1%, 10x that number are hospitalized. So, the triage tent is there to choose which patients are most likely to survive.

NYC will certainly survive. The best that can happen now is YES for people to understand so that it doesn't happen in cities without the same resources. Btw, the expected apex of the curve in NY will be 21 days from now. Don't let nobody bullshit you.

In that Sky News video, one of the doctors said 9-11 was much easier in a sense because they were waiting to help people but they didn't arrive. Vs. now it's non-stop.
