Training, philosophy, CMA history.
very deep in theory and ability....
A true master of his craft

A friend

Deep condolences to family, close friends, and students.

Some of his history

Grandmaster David Chin is an exponent of two major styles born from dissident teachings. His martial forefathers changed the identities of their arts, either to evade political oppression or as a protest against a totalitarian regime.

Coincidentally, both styles also had deep connections to that very regime through the imperial guards, classic examples of one of kung fu's time-honored thirty-six strategies: "Fool the Emperor to cross the sea." Likewise,

Grandmaster Chin crossed the Pacific to pioneer these anti-Imperialist arts in America.

Condolences. It sounds like he had a lot to offer. Hopefully he was able to pass the torch on to a successor.

Appreciated ;)

His teaching was very much grounded in reality adapting his methods as needed
for the current competition formats.

Thanks to all

Chin Shifu,
was the teacher of one of my teachers Mike Staples.
Met Chin Shifu, briefly as a teenager at his gym.

Would later reconnect over the phone researching some of the training methods of Tibetan White Crane.

In the process we became good friends, knowing some of the same people, he making clear some of the history of that time frame.
Very interesting in talking with him....Having spoken with him just recently, his passing, a sad surprise although he did have some health issues.

Very kind, direct man, echoing many of my viewpoints when I was younger,
sparking them again now a little old.

@greytowhite.

My interest was in the Tibetan White Crane, some of the training methods
and history.

Not aware of what he taught from his taiji
In all training his focus was on fighting/usage...

He has/had a gym in s-Carolina, produced students who fought in some of the mma venues

Taiji demo with one of his students.

Re: WW - Thank you.

Re: Trick - David Chin is said to be the only person that Kuo Lien-Ying taught the Guang Ping Yang Er Lu. GPY is a transitional form retaining flavors from Chen taiji. According to the oral traditoin, it's a Yang Banhou originated style.

OMG, that is a very inventive way to train. Exactly the sort of things I saw in China. :P

Tibetan White crane a subset of Hop Gar, shares a lot of the same training methods.
Many of them very hard on the body....

Chin, Shifu developed and trained fighters.
Very innovative in his approach.

I first met Sifu Chin at tournament events in the mid-1980's. He was a gracious friend and a generous teacher, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May his memory be eternal!
