Yeah I thought everyone would see through this one right away. Oh well?
So.. what is it that you think she's doing and what do you think she is doing incorrectly?
Looks to me like manipulating his center of mass through his contact point. It's a very common thing to do in non-cooperative push hands. None of the higher-ranking HME students or teachers I've come across with have demonstrated this level of control with me. Even Curtis Brough was prone more to just powering through my structure than relying on any subtlety.
Generally I need another contact point to get both of someone's feet off the ground and I can only really pull it off well in a couple positions at this point. So definitely need more work. She's demonstrating a variety of angles and redirections.
Now the caveat is the other guy. I think the early phases of the HME training definitely make you easy to throw around if you don't know what you're doing or don't follow instructions. I guess? I dunno I got a lot out of the system but YMMV. I touched a kid from Alabama at the retreat with I think like 6 months of study in the system, and he was just a perfect little throwing partner. Just unified enough to help me get his whole body easily and pretty much make him do whatever I wanted with a finger. He was a little better after the five minute foundations tune-up but still. Anybody watching us would have thought I was Adam Mizner himself.
So I'm sure this dude is just giving her what she needs to make it work. Makes it easier to look good. But I wouldn't dismiss her as having no skill.
You might not believe there is any value to the skill itself and that's fine, I find it useful in non-cooperative push hands and actual fights that I've been in.
